Reasons why your blog may not be attracting the stats you want

Blogs require a few things to make them work properly:

When I talk about the look of your blog I mean the overall layout not just the visuals. Here are some things to consider when you start your blog.

a)    Is your blog easy to navigate?

b)    Do your readers know who the author/s is? Have you written a bio and posted a pic?

c)    Do you have a subscribe button?

d)    Can your readers leave comments and use trackbacks?

e)    Have you entered your niche’s categories?

f)    Do you have a decent home page that explains why you’re writing this blog?

g)    Can they follow you on other social media tools easily i.e. with a click?

h)    Do you show your latest tweets so that they can watch the feed?

i)     Do you use varying calls to action eg: ask for comment, post a poll?

j)     Do you use links to your other articles in the body copy of a post to increase ‘stickiness’?

k)    Can your readers share the post easily?

Relevant and good quality content are vital for your blog and each post needs to inform or entertain or both.  Here are a few issues for your to consider on content.

a)    It’s a blog but check the grammar and spelling – be professional

b)    A visual helps.  Too much type and the readers glaze over

c)    Try video.  It’s often easier to vlog instead of blog! It’s more entertaining too!

d)    Keep the post on track. Make sure your headline is met in the copy.

e)    Stick to the category and post the right tags for the topic

f)    Keep the tags to 4 or 5 – not too many

g)    Try to post a minimum of twice a week – preferably more!

h)    Use your key words in the heading and in the first few lines of body copy

i)     Embed links to other related posts

j)     Keep them short.  Too much copy is boring!
